ACPA’s 10968NAT Certificate IV in Performing Arts course is designed for students ready to take their first step into the performing arts industry, improve their pathways into tertiary education, or prepare for future employment.

The course is offered over twelve months full-time at the ACPA studios in the Judith Wright Arts Centre.

Delivered through eleven core units and four electives, this course teaches:

  • listening, music theory and vocal / instrumental skills
  • health and fitness, physical conditioning, nutrition, health and safety stage presence, vocal development, common theatre conventions, public speaking and presentation skills
  • the historical, social and cultural significance of drama and theatre, traditional cultural dance, modern fusion, hip hop, contemporary and ballet

This is a nationally accredited professional qualification in which both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students are encouraged to apply.




10968NAT Certificate IV in Performing Arts

This qualification is made up of seven core units and eight electives as described in the Course Units section.

Total unsupervised hours may comprise of:

  • Undertaking work experience performance opportunities
  • Completing written assignments / projects
  • Completing self-study to revise and reinforce areas of knowledge
  • Conducting research and rehearsal requirements for productions
  • Workplace practice / application of skills and knowledge acquired through supervised learning activities

Total supervised hours: 870

Total unsupervised hours: 575 which may comprise individual or group warm up sessions, external performance activities, research, individual practice times for such things as vocal development, choreography, learning of performance parts or lines, character development, rehearsals, meetings, interviews or interactions with relevant personnel in the performing arts and related industries.

Early exit points are not applicable.

A Statement of Attainment will be issued for any unit of competency completed if the full qualification in not completed.
